This is an article I wrote recently for the members of the New Wings Success Community.
I was talking to a woman the other day. She had lost her job as Travel Agent and a mutual friend suggested she call me for a chat and to see if we were a match for a coaching relationship.
As we chatted it became very apparent that she was unable to see past what was comfortable and familiar to her. She wasn’t at all curious about life after travel or any other opportunities that might be out there.
You see, she knew how to ‘do travel agent’ and despite spending much of our chat bemoaning the state of the industry, she wasn’t at all interested in exploring other options.
To create transformation in any area of your life involves finding ways to go beyond the boundary of what you currently know, to be curious about the unknown.
To go beyond the boundaries of your current thinking
I don’t know about you but I’m picturing images of journeys into space and unknown realms!!!
Come back to earth and think about it this way,
Every result you get in your life is based on what you know.
For some people, the idea of earning $200,000 per year is a known thing and they do it with ease. For others, it seems way too big and unimaginable.
It’s outside the boundaries of their thinking.
Why would you want to shift the boundary of your thinking?
Do you want to earn more?
Do you want your dream house?
Do you want to have your dream job or start your own business?
Do you want to meet the love of your life? Have better, more meaningful relationships?
Do you want to get out of a bad relationship?
Do you want to travel, experience new cultures?
Do you want to learn to play a musical instrument?
Do you want to learn to fly a plane?
Anything new is outside your comfort zone. It’s unknown and at least, a little bit scary. Trying new things requires courage and there’s some risk involved.
Courage only comes through action.
A few years ago I learned to fly a plane. And before I did, I was terrified of landing. This stopped me from even starting to learn. In my first flying lesson there were so many things to think about and to do before we took off. It was only once we were in the air, and flying around, that I realised that what goes up must come down…..
I had to take action.
Lesson after lesson, I learned the procedure and process behind the skill of landing. At some point through all the lessons, I lost the fear of landing, it became a known thing.
How would it be to be able to move the Boundaries of your thinking?
What would it mean to you to be able to…..take on the world?
